DAIC Celebrates World MSME Day 2025

“Empowering Innovation & Sustainability for a Stronger Dominica”

Roseau, Dominica – [June 27th, 2025] – The Dominica Association of Industry and Commerce (DAIC) proudly joins the global community in observing World Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Day, under the theme “Enhancing the Role of MSMEs as Drivers of Sustainable Growth and Innovation.”

This globally recognized day casts a well-deserved spotlight on the entrepreneurs and small businesses who serve as the backbone of our economy — powering innovation, job creation, and community development across every sector.

“Today, we celebrate YOU, the resilient micro, small, and medium enterprises that power the heartbeat of Dominica’s economy,” said Brenton Hilaire, President of the DAIC. “Every entrepreneur, every innovator, every dedicated worker behind an MSME is a cornerstone of our nation’s sustainable growth and innovation. You’re not just businesses — you’re dream-makers, change agents, and pioneers forging paths toward prosperity.”

As the private sector’s national voice, the DAIC has remained steadfast in its mission for more than five decades: advocating for enterprise development, strengthening business capacity, and fostering impactful partnerships.

“MSMEs play a vital role in shaping a resilient, inclusive, and forward-looking economy,” said Ashma McDougall, Executive Director of the DAIC. “They continue to lead our national response to global shocks and disruptions, showcasing incredible agility and ingenuity. Today, we reaffirm our commitment to advocating for stronger, smarter, and more supportive ecosystems for these enterprises.”

In Dominica and across the wider Caribbean, MSMEs account for over 70% of employment and contribute significantly to GDP. Despite their size, they represent vast potential for digital transformation, environmental stewardship, and inclusive economic development. Yet, they often face challenges accessing financing, training, and markets.

That’s why this year’s theme resonates deeply with many of DAIC’s members — whose stories embody the transformative power of MSMEs in action.

Lana Athanaze, CEO of Éclat Nova Luxuries, represents a rising generation of purpose-driven entrepreneurs.

“MSMEs are agile, adaptive, and deeply rooted in local communities,” she shared. “At Éclat Nova Luxuries, we champion ethical sourcing, clean technologies, and eco-conscious design. We empower local artisans and prove that innovation and responsibility can go hand in hand. I’m proud to be part of a new wave of MSMEs driving sustainable growth through innovation.”

Similarly, Lindo Mart, a long-standing grocery outlet in the heart of Goodwill, uses its platform to uplift local farmers and community initiatives.

“Over 95% of our fresh produce is locally grown,” the team at Lindo Mart shared. “For over 16 years, we’ve partnered with Dominican producers and given back through donations, sponsorships, and outreach. We serve with purpose, invest in people, and believe in the power of small businesses to create lasting change.”

Earlier today, the DAIC joined forces with the Small Business Support Unit (SBSU) and the National Development Foundation of Dominica (NDFD) in issuing a powerful joint statement that served both as celebration and call to action:

“Let this day be more than just a celebration — let it be a challenge to policymakers, financiers, and business leaders to invest in MSMEs, create enabling environments, and reward innovation, inclusion, and integrity,” the statement read. “Let us also call on MSMEs to remain agile, forward-thinking, and committed to continuous growth. Because when MSMEs rise, Dominica rises.”

As Dominica advances toward a greener, more inclusive economy, the DAIC remains committed to working alongside government, civil society, and development partners to unlock the full potential of its MSMEs.

“Every great business began as a dream. Let your vision shine brighter than your challenges. Your innovation today shapes tomorrow’s reality. Dominica is stronger because of you.”
